What do you do when the pressure rises?
I love it when the pressure is on; my adrenalin kicks in and I get really excited. That is why I love getting involved with session work.
Have you had any fashion disasters?
There was a last-minute disaster at the Temperley London show when three of the models turned up with their hair covered in wax. As time was so tight, we had to wash the hair (with cold water!) and style it ready for the show. But as always, we pulled it together and luckily we managed to do it just in time.
What have been your Fashion Week highlights?
My personal highlight was working on the Temperley London A/W11/12 show. It was held in the British Museum and the collection was so beautifully striking. It was a real honour to be involved with the hair, and it was also lovely to find out afterwards that Alice Temperley received an MBE for her contribution to the industry – which made being a part of her most recent collection all the more special.
What’s your ultimate way to unwind after Fashion Week?
For me, sleep and a pint at the pub with friends is the perfect way to relax!
Who is your mentor and why?
I need to say a big thank you to Panos Papadrianos, it was such an honour to work alongside him, and learn from him, on the AW/11/12 shows at London Fashion Week.
He helped me to understand how to get out of the mindset of everyday salon work and focus on drawing on my creativity and bringing that to the catwalk looks.
What are your words of wisdom to aspiring session stylists?
Less is more is a personal philosophy that I apply to everything I do, from cutting to styling. But I think it is really important to invest in fashion magazines on a regular basis, you will refer to them as though they were a bible and rely on them for inspiration.
What was your favourite show from the A/W11/12 season?
My personal favourite was Emilio de la Morena’s collection. The structure and elegance of his clothes was exceptional and the Modern Victoriana look we worked through the hair created an overall strong, yet feminine look – the perfect balance.
What’s hot for the S/S11 season?
For S/S11 we will be seeking inspiration from the poetic glam of the Seventies – think centre partings, eye-skimming fringes, soft volume and elegant texture, complemented by a charming and luxurious colour palette.
