The trend
Think Farrah! A glorious romp reminiscent of a star-spangled Studio 54 – the ’70s are back! Liberated, seductive and glammed up to the hilt, be inspired by sultry icons of the era Bianca Jagger, Anjelica Houston and Jerry Hall.
Labels we loved
Giles: The catwalk was a cacophony of marvellous models styled by Toni&Guy – from pin-up Kelly Brook to Veruschka, the ’70s icon, girly glamour at its best!
House of Holland: A collection that screamed Malibu Barbie and nightclub naughtiness! Banana leaf prints, fringing and pleats on sleeves, flares and slinky halterneck dresses are guaranteed to bring about a disco rebirth.

Catwalk colour
For a fabulous illuminated blonde that shimmers like a mirrorball under a spotlight, check out Sandy Shadow Box from L’Oréal Professionnel’s S/S11 colour collection, Summer Illusions. At Trevor Sorbie, international technical director and head of technical education Nathan Walker is using a simple technique this summer called mid banding. “Using darker colours at the roots and the ends of the hair, we then lighten the middle before putting on an iridescent tone.” Christel Lundqvist, HOB Salons’ creative colour director, sees this trend based on a seamless blend between different hues to create a liquid metallic feel to your blondes. For a full metal finish, Redken’s Gold Rush collection features that most precious metal heavily as a statement, popping off the catwalk as an extra energetic embellishment! But you can have fun with other hues too! “At the Topshop Unique show we worked with loads of pastel tones,” explains Liam Curran at Burlingtons. “It was a real mix of mints, lavenders and soft shades.”
“This gives blondes a perfect opportunity to spice things up. Use a darker golden blonde on the roots moving into light colours on the ends for a shimmer like sequins!”
