Emma Stone

Anita Cox-McMillanRanked number 10 in People magazine’s annual 100 Most Beautiful List in 2011, Arizona-born actress Emma Stone is a mix of cat-like green eyes, clear alabaster skin and a perennial habit of changing her hair colour. The Golden Globe nominee (naturally blonde) is currently our favourite redhead, but will be going back to her roots to play Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man film, to be released next year. Anita Cox McMillan talks us through her clever colour.

The look: The deep red tones used on Emma’s hair emphasise richness and shine, bringing the best out of her long, almost one length hair. This is a great example of the correct colour matched to the perfect hair type; the length really gives the opportunity to maximise all that is great about this bold, luxurious-looking colour and thick, well-conditioned hair.

The palette: The combination of copper and Titian tones in this particular red tonal group emphasises the clarity of both Emma’s skin and eyes. It’s a match made in heaven!

Technique: This is a very straightforward colour application using either permanent or semi-permanent colour, like Schwarzkopf Professionals’ Vibrance or Essensity ranges, applied throughout the hair from roots to ends.

Alternative take: For summer it can be a nice addition to pre-lighten sections of the hair before applying the all over colour. This can produce lighter areas of the same colour and is emphasised when under a spotlight. It allows the client the benefits described in Emma’s hair, but with added texture, particularly beneficial on long layered or one length hair.
