Christina Hendricks

Mad Men mania is in full swing and there were references galore on the A/W catwalks. Christina Hendricks leading role as Joan ‘Red’ Harris is lending inspiration all over. Although naturally blonde, Christina’s been colouring her hair since she was 10 years old. Here Rae Palmer, creative director of Rae Palmer Hairdressing and Schwarzkopf Essensity BlondeMe ambassador, talks us through the colour.

The look: It’s modern minimalist, a key trend for A/W. Christina wears the sophisticated and groomed style with real elegance – it’s understated glamour at its best.

The palette: Christina’s palette is a strawberry and marigold blonde blended together to give a rich, glossy but natural-looking copper.

Technique: It’s a tonal colouring technique and is a global, block-colouring application, but sectioned to give a two-tone result. I love the way the copper has a golden blonde undertone to it, the lightness and warmth in the colour suits her skin tone perfectly. The colour technique helps the hair to reflect light beautifully, giving it a luxury, high-end feel.

Alternative take: I would work with my ‘see through’ technique, this is where I pre-lighten the hair first using Schwarzkopf BlondeMe, lifting the hair to a yellow/orange undercoat before applying the colour, this is to achieve the blonde and gold undertones. I would tone and create beautiful coppers with Schwarzkopf Essensity, using this colour creates that gorgeous, mirror-shine and multi-tonal reds in the hair.
