THE PANEL

Q There will be new skin testing laws introduced in the UK in the near future, how is this going to affect us?

NICK: We can’t say fully and definitively what will happen yet. But my best advice is to be really close to your insurance company. Some insurance companies have a higher degree of flexibility over allergy testing and some don’t cover it at all, so read the fine print and ask them.

LISA: It is a full-time job skin testing, so my stylists out on the floor don’t do it, but the receptionists do instead. We skin test every person that comes in and we present it in a beautiful way, and a way that shows we care. They come in a few days before their appointment and we skin test them. The regulars are fine with this, it is usually the new clients who are disappointed and need convincing but it’s not a risk we are willing to take. In all my time as a hairdresser there has only been one moment it happened, and the lady was practically blue. It was absolutely terrifying and I never want to experience that again.
