Task Force
If there is one thing you do this month, try sample sized products

It’s unheard of for a magazine skincare sample to be left untouched, a designer sample sale not to be mobbed after a revealing tweet, or see goodie bag fillers thrown straight into the bin. Everyone loves a little taster to whet the appetite… so just think about what it can do for your salon!
With 69 per cent of customers more likely to buy a product after having received a sample, it’s proof that it can be one of your best sales tools, and Goldwell has already realised the rising power of sampling with its Dualsenses sample selection.
Begin with the basics by asking your clients about their haircare needs during a consultation, explain how you can help and which products you’re going to use to achieve the desired results. Remember the product experience continues at the backwash, so explain what products you’re using during the shampoo and scalp massage. Then get them up close and personal by giving them the products to look at while in the chair, so you can explain how they can recreate the look at home while they enjoy the fragrances.
When it’s time to pay, it’s time to purchase retail too, so give a sample to your client while explaining the benefits and features of the product. If your client is already hooked on specific goodies and stocks up on them after each appointment, then give them a free sample of the 60-second treatment or a shampoo from a different range to make sure they know their loyalty is appreciated. Lastly, make a note of what your client has purchased and which sample they went home with so you can follow up on their thoughts – whether they adored the range and want more, or if they weren’t satisfied so you recommend an alternative. It’s a small gesture that will make your salon sales go a long way. What have you got to lose?
