Stylish salon interiors from around the world
Schneideraum, Hamburg, Germany
The ultra-functional and gorgeous Schneideraum, meaning cutting room, is the creative brainchild of Angelos Toulis and Eike Haselau, who fell in love with the space and built their business around it. “The wavy table was already there,” says Eike. “It inspired us to build up the design organically.”

The space is worked beautifully, with all aspects of the salon integrated into a functional, edgy whole. The backwash basins are cocooned off simply by a curtain, while the opulent fireplace stands majestically at the back of the salon, stunningly juxtaposed with the fresh, bright cleanliness of the chrome, black and white furniture.

“The light is sensational here,” says Eike, noting that the generous window space affords the best possible working environment. Artificial lighting is well thought-out, with the salon lit from all angles. “We were inspired by round shapes,” says Eike, the scooped-out chairs a careful choice to match the central table. Because the space is so big, they opted for a strong colour flash throughout to break it up. The ‘warehouse’ feel comes from the building itself; the steel girders, chains and poles are remnants of a past in iron and metal for shipbuilding. A perfect example of building your design around what you already have.
