My light bulb moment…
Realising that making mistakes is not a negative thing and that you learn the most from them! Seeing every mistake as a learning curve and embracing it has really helped me to build my business skills and make me a stronger businessman.
My scariest decision…
Making my daughter Natasha an area manager for the salon group. I knew that giving her the role would put her in the line of fire, while I was also concerned about how well the team would respond to her and that they wouldn’t just think a classic case of the boss’s daughter. It proved to be a great business decision and a huge success for our salon teams and company as a whole.
I knew I made it when…
We opened our first franchise! Having someone want to open their own salon under our business umbrella was a really significant moment, reflecting our success at the time, it made me proud of how much we had achieved.
If I could go back 10 years…
I would take more risks. I would possibly be less cautious as I now see that risk-taking is a big part of business growth and can really help drive success.
I’ll never take for granted…
My team, our clients and where I’ve come from.
The most important lesson I’ve learnt…
Is to listen to everyone around me, no matter what walk of life they come from. It’s very important to listen.
My favourite piece of advice…
Management is all about getting the best out of your team, you can’t teach someone to be a leader.
I owe it all to…
My wife! Without her I wouldn’t be the man I am today – as the cliché goes: ‘behind every great man is a great woman’.
